JMC219 Online Journalism & Digital Media
If
the 20th century belonged to the traditional forms of media, the 21st
century surely belongs to the internet. And internet in the 21st century
is synonymous not with laptops or computers but with smartphones which
can be sourced for as less as 5k. Gone are the days when a journalist
needed traditional forms of the media to convey information. With the
internet providing a platform for media convergence, the dependence on
traditional forms of media is only going to come to an end. News and
information is now being consumed on a 6 inch smartphone and not
necessarily through the traditional forms of the media. The rate, at
which information is being transmitted, primarily aided by cheap
internet, is the reason why someone in New Delhi is able to see
something being beamed live from London or even Boston simultaneously.
With many traditional media outlets turning digital, the course will
give the student a huge perspective about the evolving nature of the
medium and will also help students in finding appropriate jobs in the
digital arena as well. A course in New Media and Digital Technology will
enable the student to find the synergies, challenges and opportunities
in this emerging media landscape.
